Setting up the MPK Mini Play Midi Controller with Cakewalk

If you haven’t connected your controller to the computer yet, connect it.

In this case, the following message should appear:

Click the Yes button. If the Controller is already connected skip this step and lets move on.

Next go to Edit -> Preferences

Under the MIDI Menu on the left click on Devices and check mark the MPK mini play

Click the Apply and OK buttons and your set.

Now lets add a track for the drums and another for the keyboard.

Click the Add Track Button ( + ) to the left

Click the Instrument tab (rather than Audio).

Under Instrument choose Speedrum Lite and under Input MPK mini play -> Midi Ch. 10:

Choose MPK mini play for Input and your speakers for output

Now, you will need to load drum samples into this specific plugin, if you cannot manage to do that on your own I could upload a short tutorial for that too.

Do the same with other plugins, i.e. piano, strings, bass etc..

About MPK Mini Play Tutorials

The physical size of the MPK mini controllers along with their affordable price, might give the impression of a very basic instrument, perhaps almost a toy. But they are far away than that. The mpk mini play is a professional instrument. A fully advanced tool which suits the needs of experienced sound producers and musicians.

In this blog I share my learning experience with akai's music production keyboard, the mpk mini play, mainly answering questions I have not found answers to via other resources on the web. The blog is currently active, meaning new posts will be added as time moves on.
